Senior Commits to DePauw University

On March 3, senior Cameron Lester ’23 committed to continuing his academic and athletic career at DePauw University. He shared, «Thank you to my parents for supporting me during this process and thank you to the coaches, teammates, and friends who have helped me on and off the field.» We can’t wait to cheer him on at the college level. Go Tigers!

Kamat Brothers Earn 2nd Place at Semifinal Round of Entrepreneurship Contest

On Sunday, March 5, 2023, Hans ’24 and Evan Kamat ’25 traveled to the east coast to pitch in the semifinal round of the Diamond Challenge, an international high school entrepreneurship contest sponsored by the Horn Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Delaware. As one of 20 invited US semifinalist teams, they were featured in the business innovation track for their product, The Bench Warmer, a novel team bench seat heater.  After a five-minute pitch in front of distinguished judges and the audience, they fielded the judges’ questions about the product and business model. Despite intensive competition from polished high school teams from all over the country, the Kamat brothers returned with a second-place finish. They now have the opportunity to go to the final round in late April, featuring all of the international round winners and a $15,000 cash prize. Way to go, Kamat brothers and entrepreneurs!

Ram Competes at AAU Wrestling State Tournament

Brian Schlafly ’24 placed 4th at Missouri Amateur Athletic Union’s (AAU) State Tournament on Monday, March 6. Way to go, Brian!

Sophomore Declared "Volunteer of the Week"

Yash Malhotra ’25 was named Volunteer of the Week by Food Outreach on Thursday. The organization shared, that he» volunteered recently with his homeroom advisor and classmates at Food Outreach. They wanted to do something together that supported the St. Louis community outside of school, and Yash told them about the volunteering opportunities at Food Outreach. Yash has volunteered with us before during the summertime and throughout last year, so he knew to mention Food Outreach when coming up with ideas. He and the group of students enjoyed packing meals and giving back to the community. Yash also found that he enjoys volunteering with us, and appreciates our mission of providing nutritious meals to those who need them. Thank you for thinking of us, Yash! We enjoyed having you and your classmates from MICDS with us for cooking and packing meals!»

Three Rams Earn 1st Place at Chess Tournament

Congratulations to three MICDS students for bringing home the 1st place team trophy in the 9th and Under Division from the Gateway League Action Tournament! Players included Mannan A. ’32, Jasmine M. ’31, and Ash Falk ’26. The tournament took place at Crossroads School on Saturday, March 4.

Four Middle School Rams Shine as Part of Winning Hockey Team

Wyatt Giles ’28, Max Brodeur ’28, Austin Busch ’27, and Chase Segal ’27 won the 14U A3 Blue Note Cup Championship this past weekend with the St. Louis Rockets Hockey Club. Way to go, Rams!

HOSA Volunteers at Delmar Gardens

On Saturday, March 4, members from MICDS HOSA volunteered at Delmar Gardens and played medical charades, Pictionary, Hangman, and Deal or No Deal with senior residents and their families! Delmar Gardens is an organization that aims to create a loving and caring community for independent living, assisted living, nursing home, and rehabilitation senior residents and their families. Thanks again to those who volunteered!

MS Mathletes Go to State MATHCOUNTS Competition

On Saturday, March 4, four Middle School math students competed in the State MATHCOUNTS Competition at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri.

Saturday marked the first time ever that MICDS competed at the state level. Forest Gong ’27, Joshua Lam ’27, Andrew Li ’28, and Sanjay Malhotra ’28 represented the Rams well and brought home 5th place as a team after multiple rounds of challenging math questions.

All four competitors were in the top 40 individual scores, with Gong leading the team at #14. The competition welcomed over 25 of the top schools throughout Missouri, with more than 200 individual students competing.

Throughout the day, the boys and their families also had the chance to tour some of Missouri S&T’s science buildings, observe a nearby robotics competition, and attend presentations hosted by college engineers about their humanitarian projects in South America.

Boys Basketball Wins Districts and Sectionals

On Monday, the Boys Basketball team defeated Sullivan 49-37, securing their spot in the quarterfinals and winning the Class 4 sectional. The lead scorers of the game were Jayden Banks ’24 and Brin Lewis ’23, netting 13 points each. On Friday, they’ll play Park Hills Central in the quarterfinal at Jefferson College.

Congratulations to the MICDS Boys Basketball team, also, for defeating John Burroughs last week on March 3, 63-50, and becoming the 2023 Class 4 District 4 champions! This is the second year in a row that the Rams have defeated the Bombers in the district finals. In the District game, Brandon Clemens ’26 scored 17 points, Banks scored 16 points, and Mason Swartz ’24 scored 10 points. Way to go, Rams!

Girls Basketball Team Wins Districts

A hearty congratulations go to the MICDS Girls Basketball team for beating Lutheran North 33-14 to clinch the Class 4 District 6 title. The team held Lutheran North to just three points for the entire second half of the game.

They moved onto the round of 16 with a playoff game Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Maryville University. Although their post-season play ended here, Binta Fall ’23 scored her 1000th point in this final game of the season.
