Spirit Week

Homecoming week kicked off with plenty of RAMbunctious school energy that was channeled into some incredible outfits for Spirit Week. Each school division had a full week of special dress days. On Monday, everyone donned their Homecoming t-shirts, designed by Ellie Chen ’26. On Friday, they were all in red and green for Spirit Day, supplied by many festive items thanks to the Spirit Sales in Lower and Middle School in the morning. Throughout the week and across the Lower, Middle, and Upper School, students could also be seen in a random mix of attire for Mismatch Dress Day, jammies and onesies for Cozy/Comfy Dress Day, bright colors for Homeroom Color Day (Lower School), jerseys and hoodies for Favorite Jersey/Hoodie Day (Middle School), grass skirts and leis for Beach Day (Middle School), neon colors for Decades Day (Upper School), sheets for Toga/Greek Gods and Goddesses Day (Upper School), and in pinks and black suits for Barbenheimer Day (a combination of the two most popular movies of the summer, Barbie and Oppenheimer). What a fun week it was to be an MICDS student! Enjoy the photos below!

Pep Rally

On Friday afternoon, Ram students, faculty, and staff gathered for the all-school pep rally held at Ron Holtman Stadium. This was just the third year that the pep rally has been a JK-12 event. Previously, Middle and Upper School held two separate pep rallies on the Friday of Homecoming week. After the pandemic, their pep rallies combined into one and added in Lower School, a new tradition of collective school spirit on display. For the third year in a row, the cheerleaders performed an incredible routine, Head of School Jay Rainey shared remarks that brought the community together, and our Athletic Council co-heads announced the varsity captains who introduced their teammates. Each team dressed up with a theme and ran through a gauntlet lined by our cheerleaders when introduced among shouts of support from the schoolwide community.

Although the rest of the program was cut short due to weather, the Rams were officially pumped up for the rest of Homecoming weekend!

Food Truck Friday

Weather cleared up in time for our Food Truck Friday evening to begin. Rams and their families enjoyed a meal outside on our gorgeous campus while picking from a variety of delicious food options. For dinner, there were food trucks with tacos, hot dogs, and international cuisine. Dessert options included ice cream and KONA ice. Yum!

Parade and Bonfire

Dating back to the days of Codasco, the St. Louis Caledonian Pipe Band soon could be heard playing their beats and melodies on the bagpipes and drums as their band, our cheerleaders, and football players marched along, processing down to the bonfire field. As darkness blanketed campus, the senior football players lit the impressive bonfire. As the full team linked arms, they sang the Codasco fight song: «Hear the crash, see the flash!» All were ready for Saturday’s varsity matches and competitions against the JBS Bombers.

Fun Run

Bright and early on Saturday morning, the annual MICDS-JBS Fun Run took place. This year’s 2.5-mile race started at Burroughs and finished at MICDS. Families decked out in red and green, showing their friendly school spirit while walking, running, strolling, and wagoning along the beautiful tree-lined route. Even some dogs joined the journey outside! As an extra dash of fun, red and green sweatbands were available to the Ram participants.

Carnival and Barbecue

Many a Ram family came out to the family-friendly carnival that overtook MICDS campus right behind Olson Hall on the grassy lawn. Younger Rams especially enjoyed face painting, inflatable slides and bounce houses, field games, and balloon artists. Behind the MAC, all could pause for a delicious barbecue and picnic lunch of burgers and hot dogs. With full bellies and hearts, the community was ready for the Homecoming football game!

Ram Run & Football Game

The traditional Ram Run kicked off the Homecoming Varsity Football game with our Upper School students clad in white charging together into Ron Holtman Stadium. They packed the student section in a sea of white as the MICDS Rams defeated the Bombers 42-13! What a fun victory among the many push-ups, pep band music, and the exciting touchdowns.

Sporting Events

A huge round of applause also goes to all of our fall sports teams who competed against our rival on Saturday! A special shoutout to the Varsity Soccer team who scored an incredible win in double overtime, the first win in 11 years against the Bombers. The overtime goal was scored by our very own Max Garcia ’24. The Boys Varsity Swimming and Diving team also made a huge splash beating Burroughs in the water. Our Girls Golf team brought home a win with a score of 167-191, and the MICDS Cyclocross team participated in Pedal the Cause, riding the Ted Jones Katy Classic while raising over $40,000 to help support the battle against cancer. Way to go, Rams!

That’s a wRAMp!

To complete Homecoming Weekend, our Upper Schoolers ended the week at the Homecoming Dance on Saturday evening. Dancing the night away was the perfect way to finish off a Ram-packed week! After so much Homecoming hubbub, any remaining energy was danced off before many of our Rams slept very well thanks to an exhausting and fun weekend full of traditions.

THANK YOU to all who made Homecoming 2023 such a success and full of special memories, especially Sarah Keen, Associate Director of Events! We also couldn’t have pulled it off without the support and help of our parent, alumni, and student volunteers, coaches and game officials, Parents Association, grounds, maintenance, housekeeping, tech, and security crews, FLIK Independent School Dining, and of course, our amazing student-athletes, sports fans, and John Burroughs School for bringing the heat and spirited competition to the field. Here’s to Ram Nation!
