The MICDS varsity cheer team conducted the Beasley Cheer Clinic recently, working with JK-4th grade students. The Upper School cheerleaders coached the Lower School cheerleaders for two days after school working on stunts, jumps, cheers and dance. At practice, the girls split into three groups by grade. They rotated between stations that focused on the various elements of cheerleading while being led by 4-5 varsity cheerleaders. At the end of the practices, they brought all the groups back together and reviewed the material.
«Working with the Beasley cheerleaders is always an adventure,» shared Addie Jung ’20. «It’s so great to see the little ones year after year and to get to know them. The clinic is always a blast, and I always enjoy it. This cheer clinic is very close to my heart because I started as a clinic cheerleader and look where I am now! I hope that I’ve made as much of a positive impact on the girls as the varsity cheerleaders did for me when I was in Beasley.»
After the two days of practice, the Beasley squad performed. Although their original performance date was rained out, they brought smiles to many peoples’ faces as they performed prior to the varsity football game on Saturday, November 2.
Upon helping lead the clinic for her first time, senior cheerleader Lucy Zhao shared, «The little girls were filled with high energy and happiness from the moment they walked into the gym. They easily transferred that energy to learning the cheers and dances and ended up having an amazing performance at the game, which brought a huge smile to my face. Who knew girls so young could be such amazing cheerleaders!»
Let’s put our hands together for our Beasley cheerleaders! We’re already looking forward to the next Beasley Cheer Clinic which will be held during the basketball season. Way to go, Rams, and thank you, Varsity Cheer!
