Junior Creates Documentary On Dr. Bill Danforth, Presents It to WashU Chancellor
Annie Danforth ’22 has been working on a very special project for the past two months. For her St. Louis history documentary, she decided to focus on WashU, specifically, the role her great-uncle Dr. William « Bill » H. Danforth ’44 played in its development. She interviewed numerous WashU employees and created a wonderful documentary. She then learned that she would be able to present the documentary to Chancellor Andrew Martin along with the interviewees. For the past two months, Annie has refined the documentary even further, shifting the scope slightly to focus more on Dr. Danforth’s legacy.
Last week, Annie presented the documentary to Chancellor Martin and others, and they enjoyed a virtual viewing party. Suffice to say, they were all very impressed and Annie learned a lot in creating and presenting her documentary! « Through creating this documentary, » she shared, « I learned more about the impact of such an important institution in our community. Most importantly, however, I was inspired by the foundations that Washington University is built on: community, humility, and opportunity. My Great-Uncle Bill helped to create an institution that embodied those qualities, and it was incredible to learn more about how he did so. »

Congratulations to James Karslake ’25 who has earned the Boy Scouts of America’s William T. Hornaday Award. This award is given to scouts who have provided distinguished service in natural resource conservation.

[He also] established bat boxes at Beaumont Scout Reservation, High Ridge, to help a large bat colony displaced by renovations at a local church.
