On Friday, October 25, the MICDS Parents Association Passport Series once again welcomed parents and guardians to celebrate the biggest and most important Indian holiday of Diwali.
The Olson Hall Presentation Room was swathed in bright colors, twinkling lights, and marigold garlands to kick off this year’s Festival of Lights in advance of the five-day celebration taking place this week. Each year, the parent community comes together for Diwali to celebrate the victory of light, goodness, knowledge, and truth over evil, darkness, and ignorance. Bollywood music and a spread of delicious Indian food set the stage for a fashion show, henna tattoo station, and group dancing that brought the community together to mark the lunar calendar occasion. Old friends and new faces were able to connect and enjoy a festive sampling of the sights, sounds, and tastes of the holiday here on campus with laughter and learning.
The volunteer committee that brought it all together was led by the very talented Yugandhara Pawale (P’30) and Roma Bordewick (P’30) with special assistance from Laxmi Bhogaraju (P’24, ’28), Suparba Panda (P’26, ’30), Aarti Sharma (P’27) and Meenakshi Ramakrishnan (P’30). They were supported by the PA president Jen Hogan (P’26, ’28) and VP of parent engagement Rakhee Bhayani (P’22, ’25) along with the Passport Series chairs, Sara Gilbert (P’26, ’29) and Sarina Handa (P’23, ’26).
A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers, parents, and staff that came out to join in the fun!
