Exotic work, a class of fun, a way to express your thoughts and feelings feels like heaven to students. Well, that heaven is art class. That is right, folks, MICDS has a Winter Term art class: Big Art In Big Spaces! In this class, Middle School artists work on their marvelous collages to showcase near the Wetterau Learning Center at MICDS! A few artists in the art room are going to make something inspired by Lily Pulitzer. The tricky part, though, is that they will make their art out of scrap wooden pieces.
The seventh-grade student Clark Martin ’30 said that they were making wood collages out of scrap wood. He says it’s different from his old art class because his old art class focused mostly on clay, while this art class focused on woodwork. He feels alive when he walks into the art room, and he feels a lot of character in the art room. He really likes the artwork that hangs around the room and all of the decorations in the room.
Another seventh-grade student, Julia Leonard ‘30, said that she has done art at MICDS before and that walking into the art room makes her feel like she can do anything she desires or wants. She also described what she was doing with the wooden pieces and how she was going to make her collage. Her design would be wooden pieces stacked together in a stagger-stacked pattern, and she was painting a canvas to put the wooden pieces on. She concluded by saying that she is having fun in this class.
Middle School Visual Arts Teacher Mrs. Zimmer said that she has been working at MICDS for 17 years and that she loves to see exotic, neat, and clean artwork. She says that she loves to be in the art room and teach everybody how to make artwork. Mrs. Zimmer says that working with the students at MICDS feels like teacher heaven.
This is just one of many courses in the MICDS Winter Term program. There are courses for athleticism, challenges, engineering, brainwork, wilderness survival, etc. MICDS has all of these courses for the students to realize their inner potential. Folks, that is it for the report. If you want your kids to have a go at realizing and executing their inner potential, mark your calendars for Winter Term 2026 at MICDS!
