Kindness Crew Brightens Beasley

“Kindness comes from the heart!”
“You shine brighter than any star!”

“Life is love!”

These are all phrases thoughtfully inscribed on the evolving Kindness Crew mural in Beasley Lower School.

What is the Kindness Crew? According to Lower School Visual Arts Teacher Sarah Garner, “The Kindness Crew is a group of Lower School students dedicated to fostering kindness and support within MICDS. They work to create a positive environment by helping those in need, promoting kindness, and encouraging collaboration among students. This inclusive team focuses on leadership and community, welcoming everyone to participate in spreading love and kindness throughout the School. The crew meets two times a month during lunch and recess. The members are a mix of third- and fourth-graders who chose to sign up.”

This first year of the Kindness Crew has been busy with all sorts of compassionate projects that spread love and kindness. The 2024-2025 school year’s projects have included:
  • Making kindness posters to hang around the school
  • Creating posters for Turkey Train
  • Helping move barrels of canned food donations for Turkey Train
  • Creating a Kindness mural
  • Making friendship bracelets
  • Creating a book of kindness

What does kindness mean to these Lower Schoolers? Hear some of their answers below!

  • “Kindness means being kind to others. Helping them up when they’re down. Even if they’re not being kind to you, you have to be kind to them.” ~Dhwani A. ’33
  • “What kindness means to me is doing the right thing when no one is watching, expressing yourself in good ways, just being you.” ~Barrett E. ’33
  • “Kindness is being generous and using kind words.” ~Emily G. ’34
  • “Kindness means to me being nice, being generous, being grateful, helping out a friend, and helping somebody in general.” ~Ada F. ’33
  • “Kindness to me means that you are giving people help if they need it and giving them compliments. If they are having a hard time, you can ask ‘what’s wrong’ and you can see if they are ok.” ~Lucy K. ’34

Thank you to our Beasley Kindness Crew members and Ms. Garner for spreading kindness everywhere they can at MICDS! What brightness you all bring to Beasley and MICDS as a whole!
