What’s the best way to get to know your fellow fifth-graders? Camp out overnight in your school, of course!
Once again, our dedicated team of fifth-grade teachers—led by Fifth Grade Dean Christine Mayer—organized and hosted an amazing evening of fun and bonding for our students. Fifth Grade Adventure Night is a surefire way to create memories and lasting friendships with classmates.
After a fun day at school that included amazing activities outside of the normal curriculum, students headed home to get sleeping bags, pillows, and stuffed animals before returning to campus ready for adventure. Some teachers were ready to help them set up their air mattresses and sleeping bags in the McDonnell Athletic Center (MAC) while others were getting the grill fired up on the patio outside the dining hall. Students had time to play before converging for a picnic-style barbecue dinner.
Then it was time for Stations of Fun, which included making music, playing games like Minute-to-Win-It, and building structures out of blocks with Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning Dr. Sally Maxwell. What comes next? Dance party! They used tons of energy, which is good because just a few hours after dinner it was time for a pizza party. Nothing like a late-night snack before bed!
Students slept hard before being awoken by the dulcet tones of Mr. Menneke and his custom playlist. Students cleaned up their areas and headed off to kickball, open art studio, sustained silent reading/quiet time, or the makerspace. They gathered by advisory to enjoy breakfast and work on letters to their parents.
It was, once again, a magical overnight at school that these students will remember for the rest of their lives. Many thanks to our talented and energetic teachers (Nick Menneke, Josh Baumgartner, Kathleen Armstrong, Susie McGaughey, Robyn Williams, Branson Lawrence, Kristina Jones, and Jason Roberts) for creating an evening of fun!
