Rams Welcome Spring with Field Day Fun

Middle School students buzzed with anticipation for our annual Spring Fling, a festive day-long celebration where fifth through eighth graders welcome the long-awaited good weather, ignite the spring sports season, and, of course, enjoy fun and camaraderie.

The day began with advisory time, during which students worked on their signature community service project: collecting supplies and creating homemade toys for shelter animals at the Missouri Humane Society. They quickly moved on to kick off a lively opening ceremony in Mary Eliot Chapel. Each advisory brought their A-game, showcasing vibrant cheers and enthusiastic performances that filled the chapel with energy. The vibrant display of red, green, white, and black for their “Color Wars” was a powerful representation of school spirit!

With two student choice blocks built into the day, students dove into a wide array of activities. Field Day games in the MAC and on the outdoor fields featured high-energy favorites, including a kickball tournament, knockout basketball challenges, “Get 20,” and Rock, Paper, Scissors, all of which promoted teamwork and friendly competition. Meanwhile, the Front Lawn Fair bounced with the thrill of an inflatable slide and obstacle course, Basketball Connect Four, and laughter-inducing yard games.

For those seeking a more relaxed vibe, other sessions offered a diverse selection of activities to match every interest. From leisurely campus strolls and cozy movie time to upbeat karaoke parties and creative Open Art and makerspace sessions, students enjoyed the freedom to unwind and connect at their own pace. A highlight of the day was the delicious grab-and-go lunch provided by the Middle School Dining Hall team, where picnic-style meals enjoyed by advisory groups added to the festive atmosphere.

The day culminated in the South Gym, where all Middle School students, faculty, and staff turned up the energy for the Spring Classic, a spirited springtime twist on January’s Winter Classic. The event kicked off with an exciting entrance by the Middle School faculty in inflatable animal costumes and an electrifying musical performance of the MICDS Rally Song by the Middle School Band, Orchestra, and Choir, setting the stage for the competitive games that followed. This year’s lineup featured exciting challenges, including Knockout Musical Chairs, Shake It Out!, and the ever-popular fake horseback riding obstacle course. Students erupted in a deafening roar of celebration and support before heading out to enjoy several Middle School athletic contests taking place across campus.

Behind the scenes, the Spring Fling and Spring Classic could not have been possible without the dedicated planning team of Middle School Teachers Callie Bambenek, Nick Menneke, Jason Roberts, and Kelly Walsh, and, of course, our student leadership team on the Community Leadership Council. Their vision, combined with the enthusiastic involvement of teachers and staff, ensured a truly memorable day for all.

Spring Fling 2025 once again showcased the boundless enthusiasm of our Middle Schoolers as they eagerly mark the countdown to the end of the school year. Way to play, Rams!
