Relocating Families

Every year at MICDS, we are delighted to welcome new students and families who have recently moved to Saint Louis. Each year, approximately 10% of our new students are also new to St. Louis. For the 2024-2025 school year, we welcomed students who have relocated from Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Texas, Brazil, China, Singapore, and Thailand!

Whether relocating for personal or professional reasons, joining our school at the beginning or midway through the year, or moving from another state or country, each relocating family and student is welcomed with open arms to both MICDS and to their new city. MICDS is seen by our relocating families as a home for their child/ren to enjoy the best education possible on a state-of-the-art campus, surrounded by vast athletic, art, and extracurricular opportunities under the guidance of deeply compassionate faculty and staff. The institution prepares our students for success for higher learning in college and beyond.

This page is a wealth of information and inspiration for making MICDS your home within the Gateway to the West. What an incredible, life-changing adventure awaits!

“MICDS has countless attributes as one of the most reputable education institutions in the US! Within these many attributes, our family would certainly highlight how very well prepared they were to welcome us to their community as we made our transition from Brazil to the US early in 2023! The non exhaustive list of very positive things we did together starts with a very warm first visit welcome reception, a transparent and straightforward application process, a relentless focus to get to know Sophie (17) and Isadora (14) very deeply to what was an incredibly customized onboarding experience and deep care to make sure the cultural difference was not at all a factor to their journey here! We would also highlight the humane and individualized treatment we received from everyone, including admissions officers, faculty, advisors and staff in general. Last but not least, the top-notch infrastructure was also a key differentiating factor, setting MICDS apart from everything we’ve seen as we researched life in Saint Louis. Come and join us, MICDS will certainly make a difference in your family’s journey!” ~ Parents Makoto and Karina

“I joined MICDS in the end of my sophomore year. Coming from a different country, and joining a new school definitely presented itself as an intimidating challenge. However, after joining MICDS I was welcomed by both the faculty members and students. I’m tremendously grateful for the effort that the teachers and students put into helping me with the transition to MICDS and St. Louis. They were essential during this process and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the MICDS community.” ~Sophie Yokoo ’25

“For me, Isadora (14), what I like the most about MICDS is the very good balance between the academic rigor and the wide spectrum of extra academic experiences the school offers! It definitively opened my mind as to how I can stretch myself in areas (including sports) that I never thought possible or had access to it before!” ~Isadora Yokoo ’28

“Last August, our daughters approached their first day of school at MICDS with excitement instead of anxiety. This was in large part due to the support of the MICDS admissions team and school community. The admissions team went above and beyond to connect us with some of the current MICDS families and students before the school year started. Additionally, the summer bridge program for new students familiarized our daughters with the MICDS campus and helped them make new friends. Our family has felt nothing but welcomed by the MICDS community and we are proud to be a part of it.”

“MICDS was very welcoming from the start. From the buddy family we were assigned through the Ram Family Connections program, to the numerous opportunities both before and during the school year for families to get together and connect, we all felt at home and part of the community right away. Especially with us not knowing anyone in the area prior to our relocation, being able to immediately connect with so many families was amazing. Seeing our son begin a new school with confidence and already having some familiar faces gave us so much reassurance. We knew we had found the right landing spot for our child and family.”

“When we found out we would be relocating from out of state in the middle of a school year, we immediately called MICDS after hearing such great things from other families. From that first phone call with admissions until now, nearly three years later, MICDS has always made us feel at home and taken care of.  The admissions team made the admission process as streamlined as possible while keeping us informed every step of the way. As parents having to relocate children in middle school and high school, the transition exceeded our expectations!” ~Parents Michelle and John

“As a student who transferred early on into his freshman year of high school, the transition couldn’t have been more seamless. The help and support from staff and students introduced me to the community that I am proud to call home as I enter my senior year.” ~Sebastian Peritore ’25

“The MICDS admissions process was clear and easy to navigate. The admissions staff were always very helpful and quick to answer our questions and concerns. They were especially accommodating as we were applying from abroad. We were grateful for the entire team’s efforts to make the application, interview and then the subsequent transition as fluid and stress-free as possible. It’s not easy moving schools much less moving countries, but we were all welcomed by the MICDS community with open arms and kindness.” ~The H. Family
