100 years to celebrate and counting.
From Brown Road to Warson Road, rustic to refined, classic curriculum to co-ed cooperation—in 2017, we celebrated the centennial of Saint Louis Country Day School’s founding, and we continue to remember all that encompasses Codasco’s deep history. While time has blurred the lines that once defined Country Day, the School’s legacy is very much alive in the philosophy that guides MICDS, in the memories of thousands of alumni and in physical and programmatic reminders sprinkled across today’s MICDS campus.
While we couldn’t recount Country Day’s entire history in one evening, we hoped that the CDS Centennial Celebration on November 17, 2017 stirred special memories—of favorite instructors, Burroughs football games, Junior Prom, typing class, Red-White competition, study hall, the start of lifelong friendships and much more. Join us in reminiscing about the past and consider the ways CDS has laid the foundation for a vibrant MICDS future.
CDS Archives 1917-92

The Country Day Archives maintains a 900-square-foot gallery/museum/library in the MICDS STEM building. Displays include historic photos; athletic trophies, plaques and apparel; artifacts from Danforth Chapel; and student and school publications, including CODASCO yearbooks. Hours of the volunteer-staffed CDS Archives vary. Tours may be arranged by contacting Cliff Saxton ’64 at (314) 821-7917 or cliffsaxton@aol.com.

The Country Day News diligently reported on school and student activities for 75 years, beginning a few weeks after St. Louis Country Day School opened in 1917 and continuing until the merger with Mary Institute in 1992. Now, all 1,765 issues known to have been published through the years – over 8,300 pages in total – have been professionally digitized by the Country Day Archives and are available online, in searchable form. These instructions will show you how to access the NEWS site, and use it to re-visit your own Codasco experiences or search for mentions of friends or other family members who attended the school.
