The 2024 Girls Cross Country season had many highlights. The team finished 7th at the State Championship behind some outstanding running from Frances Applegate ’27 and Elise Tourais ’28, who finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Both athletes earned All-State honors. It was Applegate’s second season to finish in the top 10. Senior captain Grace Coppel ’25 had been running in the top ten in the race for three kilometers but succumbed to exhaustion after fighting the effects of a weeks-long virus and was ultimately unable to finish. Coppel qualified for the State Championship each of her four years and earned All-State in last year’s race. Narya Phatak ’26 finished in 52nd place after earning All-District honors the previous week. Abby Walsh ’28, Carrie Clennan ’26, and Maitland Michaelson ’27 were also on the State team. It was Michaelson’s second trip to the State Championship. This season, the team won the Metro Conference Championship and the JV Conference championship. The future for the team looks bright as several freshmen, including Tourais, Walsh, Lucy Black ’28, and Kennan Miller ’28, ran in the Varsity lineup this season. Addie Farmer ’26 was a solid runner in our lineup for a good portion of our season, having her best race at the Indiana Twilight meet where she set a personal best. Senior Carli Salazar Estrada ’25 saw several meets on the Varsity lineup and had the best season of her four-year career. Captains Coppel, Norah Wright ’25, and Addison Small ’25, who battled an injury, did an outstanding job of leading these girls. Coppel won the Harriet Green Award for the most inspirational athlete.
