Ram Reflections: Beasley Lower School Favorites

Beasley Lower School is full of such special experiences and people. No day is exactly the same from Junior Kindergarten through fourth grade. Students are constantly growing, engaging in exciting lessons, and interacting meaningfully in the Lower School community.

Since choosing a favorite part about Beasley is too hard for us, we sat down with some fourth graders who could reflect on their time in Lower School. Below, they share a few of their favorite Beasley things!

Beasley Favorites According to a Former Fourth Grader

Julia L. ’30, came to MICDS in 1st grade

  • What she loves about Beasley:
    “We get to have recess and play on the playground. The teachers are really fun and we have cool specials.”
  • Her favorite thing she’s learned in Lower School:
    “I like learning about history and the states.”
  • Her favorite Beasley tradition:
    “I like when we sing songs: the Beasley Winter Program, the Beasley Chorus Spring Program, and the Halloween Assembly.”
  • Her favorite spot on campus:
    “I like the library. It is very cool and very comfortable.”

Bryce C. ’30, came to MICDS in SK

  • What he loves about Beasley:
    “That we have scholar dollars, the fourth-grade currency. You earn them by being good and you get your salary every Friday. Then, you can buy actual things at the auctions we have. I’ve bought a sunflower and I’ve bought a whole bunch of things.”
  • His favorite thing he’s learned in Lower School:
    “Decimals!”
  • His favorite Beasley tradition:
    “Reading, Writing, and Running, too. When we get to run around outside with all of the Lower School grades.”
  • His favorite spot on campus:
    “The MAC (McDonnell Athletic Center). All of the gyms in general since I like basketball.”

Carly E. ’30, started at MICDS in JK.

  • What she loves about Beasley:
    “The community. It’s really fun and everyone’s very kind.”
  • Her favorite thing she’s learned in Lower School:
    “I learned a lot about my family last year doing my states project and my family history project. I studied my grandpa and I learned about his family.”
  • Her favorite subject:
    “    I really like social studies. I just love learning about what happened before other people came and how we got started.”
  • Her favorite Beasley tradition:
    “The Art Gallery Night! I love going and seeing all of the artwork displayed.”
  • Her favorite spot on campus:
    “My homeroom classroom every year. I’m with all of my friends, and if you’ve been in there a while, you get used to the environment.”

Aarav N. ’30, started at MICDS in JK

  • What he loves about Beasley:
    “I like the lunches, especially when they serve French toast. I also just like normal school.”
  • His favorite Beasley tradition:
    “The winter performance every year.”
  • His favorite subject:
    “I like P.E. I like running the games that we play!”
  • His favorite spot on campus:
    “Anywhere outside so I can play with my friends.”

Evie’ O. ’30, started at MICDS in JK

  • What she loves about Beasley:
    “Everybody is very welcoming and we all help newcomers. It’s really easy making friends.”
  • Her favorite subject:
    “Art because it’s really fun to express how you’re feeling in drawings and paintings. [I’ve loved learning] how to draw because I do that a lot now.”
  • Her favorite Beasley tradition:
    “The Dragon Parade! I got to be in it once and it was SO much fun. It was part of the Chinese New Year Parade. I got to hold one of the bodies and some of my friends got to hold the head up. Everybody would stand around to watch in the cafeteria.”
  • Her favorite spot on campus:
    “The MAC because there’s just a lot of space to do stuff like running.”

Charlie W. ’30, started at MICDS in SK

  • What he loves about Beasley:
    “The specials…they’re super fun. We have super nice teachers and it’s just a really fun place. And we have a good playground.”
  • His favorite thing he’s learned in Lower School:
    “I wasn’t really a good reader when I came in here, but I really started to love reading in first and second grade.”
  • His favorite Beasley tradition:
    “The Kids Heart Challenge when everybody in Beasley School goes to the MAC and you get to compete with your friends. [You can] race in the obstacle course, you can jump rope, you can run laps, and it’s just really active and it’s fun.”
  • His favorite spot on campus:
    “The soccer field!”
