Much to the delight of our 1st grade classes and the full Beasley Lower School, the annual 1st Grade Book Swap took place last week. This year marked the sixth year that the book swap has been orchestrated at MICDS. The goal? Collect 500 books. Read on to see how this year’s 1st graders more than doubled the number of collected books beyond the goal.
Each day, 1st graders collected books from all throughout Lower School. Each cohort of students from Junior Kindergarten through 4th grade placed their daily book contributions in a bin that was picked up each morning by the 1st grade students. Then, 1st graders counted the books together, stacking them one-by-one.
At the end of the counting process, one cohort was responsible for taking the total amount of books collected in the Lower School and posting the number collected (counted in 20s) on a graph in the Beasley Hallway.
In total, 1,024 books were gathered! They will be donated to a local organization or school.
Outstanding job to the Class of 2032 and to all of Lower School for their very generous book donations!
