Eleven fourth graders were invited to the T-Rex center to participate in the Waste Challenge sponsored by Missouri Botanical Garden. The students had a brainstorm session and built a prototype that they presented to a panel of judges on ways to reduce waste at their school. “The level of waste is constantly rising, so this made us more aware of how we can help,” said Amara Macia ’26.
They competed on four different teams of 2-3 students. Natasha Wells ’26 and Ben Peterson ’26 took 3rd place out of a field of nine teams, and Amara Macia ’26 and Kedre Smith ’26 took honorable mention.
