By MICDS Parent Sona Kamat
On Friday, October 22, the MICDS Parents Association Passport Series welcomed parents to an in-person celebration of the Indian holiday Diwali. Diwali is a time in India where friends and family gather to celebrate good fortune, the new year, and each other.
The Olson Hall Presentation Room was transformed into a “passage to India” with colorful saris, sparkly Rajasthani parasols, and of course, twinkling lights to mark the Festival of Lights. Parents enjoyed a presentation by committee chairs Sona Kamat and Babita Kumar and then explored the flavors of traditional Indian boxed snacks/sweets accompanied by mango lassi on the sunny patio. While many parents mingled indoors, some, including Director of Enrollment Management Eric Brunt, took advantage of the henna tattoos offered by Tejal Patel. Upper and Lower School students did not disappoint in their energetic Bollywood dance presentation, which closed out the delightful afternoon.
Many thanks to our Passport Series co-chairs, Ayumi Cullen and Ashley Cook, and volunteers Nitu Agarwal for the delicious Indian treats; Shalini Malhotra for the spirited decor; and Sarina Handa for coordinating the Bollywood dance.
Happy Diwali, everyone!
