Beautiful music sounded through Brauer Hall on Wednesday at the Winter Strings Concert. This two-part concert featured the Lower and Middle School Strings Programs followed by the Upper School Strings Ensemble. Led by MICDS Strings Faculty Mr. David Doherty and Mrs. Erin Hamill, the concert was the first performance in the second year of the MICDS Strings Program.
Selections for the concert ranged from classics and holiday tunes to Romanian folk dance music and concertos. The Lower and Middle School Beginning String Ensembles kicked off the night with six pieces including Twinkle, Twinkle arranged by Terry Shade and Jeremy Woolstenhulme, Beethoven’s Ode to Joy and Plucking Open Strings from the String Basics Book 1. The Middle School Intermediate String Ensemble performed Jingle Bells, Oh Hannukah and Angels We Have Heard on High, getting the audience into the holiday spirit. Closing out the evening, the Upper School String Ensemble performed pieces from Mozart, Vivaldi and Arcangelo Corell before finishing off with a series of Béla Bartók’s Rumanian folk dance songs. Thank you to the MICDS Arts Backers and all who have helped make the Strings Program at MICDS a success. A very special thank you to the Lower through Upper School students for coming together with their violins, violas, cellos and basses to create such a breathtaking concert!
