Beasley Delivers a Groovy Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Grandparents and Special Friends Day once again created lasting memories at Beasley! Our youngest students were excited to share their learning and participate in hands-on classroom fun with their special guests, offering a glimpse into the exciting life of a Beasley Lower School student.

This year’s event found our littlest learners and their guests exploring reading and writing, playing educational and spirited trivia games, and sharing stories about their school day in the classrooms. Additionally, a highlight of the day was a heartwarming visit to the Beasley Music Studio, where students showcased their musical talents, dancing, and presentation skills. The interactive music activities and upbeat performances brought smiles to all.

Guided by Lower School Music Teacher Dr. Katy Nichols, Beasley students had a wonderful time celebrating with their grandparents and special friends. JK and SK kicked off the afternoon with their show, Kitchen Disco. The children sang hits from the Beatles, ABBA, and Sister Sledge. Lower School Library Associate Nicole Liebman served as the narrator for the book, Kitchen Disco by Clare Foges and Al Murphy. Many of the children had speaking parts, and they learned to disco, boogie, get down, and shake their groove things for the show.

First and second grade brought down the house with their hit, Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey. A disco ball was recently installed in the Beasley Studio to accompany all the groovy songs, and this was one of them. Students played instruments for We Will Rock You as well as the final Beatles Medley, where the audience joined in on Hey Jude! First grade danced to Weezer’s A Little Bit of Love while second grade sang along.

Third and fourth graders were showstoppers with their hits, such as This is Me from The Greatest Showman. Several fourth graders showed off their beautiful singing voices with group solos. Third-grade students jammed on ukuleles for the Lumineers’ Ho Hey, and fourth graders brought down the house with Billie Jean by Michael Jackson on the barred instruments. Students ended the show by singing in harmony to Andy Grammer’s Don’t Give Up On Me. Dr. Nichols and the students co-created a genuinely engaging, if not rocking, experience for everyone.

Head of Lower School Amy Scheer said, “Grandparents and Special Friends Day is such a joyful celebration. It’s one of the most heartwarming and memorable days of the year in Beasley, and students proudly share their learning and accomplishments. The laughter, smiles, and meaningful conversations between students and their guests made the day truly magical. And the incredible musical performances, featuring a fun tribute to songs from decades past, had everyone tapping their toes and singing along. It’s always a delight to hear how much our guests appreciate the wonderful work happening in our classrooms each day.”

Thank you to all Beasley students and faculty for so warmly welcoming their guests to experience Lower School life!
