Who gets excited when the Scholastic Book Fair truck pulls up to school? MICDS does! That big red dog on the side of the truck represents more than a pet named Clifford; it emanates the joy of discovering and reading new books. The Lower School Book Fair kicked off this week with classroom wish lists, a welcome breakfast, special themed dress-up days, and time to browse the book aisles for students and parents alike.
Before the sale opened to the school community, students could browse the Book Fair during library time. They shared their excitement for new books in genres ranging from fiction and non-fiction to sports and graphic novels and created wish lists to take home to their parents to get the shopping cart rolling.
The Book Fair is a special endeavor that provides supplementary funding for the Lower School Library. The school receives 25% of all revenue from the fair, and the funds help purchase new books and resources for the library, as well as boost homeroom reading projects, classroom libraries, and books in specialist classrooms. This fun and interactive event is an excellent way for students to discover exclusive titles from Scholastic and explore award-winning books, all of which are designed to ignite a lifelong love of reading.
Lower Schoolers went all out on special book-themed dress-up days, such as dressing up as a favorite book character and “Hats” off to Reading. There was also “Cozy Up and Read Day,” where students wore their pajamas to school and read their favorite books.
Lower School Librarian Thomas Buffington expressed his gratitude for the partnership, flexibility, and support of families and fellow Beasley teachers to make this year’s Book Fair a success. He said, “The book fair returned to MICDS with much excitement from our Lower School students and the greater MICDS community. Students have been talking about the Book Fair for weeks. It’s amazing to see such excitement for reading, obtaining new books, and growing their knowledge. As with previous years, it’s an incredible cooperative feat to communicate, set up, showcase, and break down the fair in the scope of one week – it’s thanks to our families, faculty, staff, and administration that it comes together. We’re reminded of how well worth the effort this event is each time a student shares a smile or excitement towards their books.»
The online version of the Book Fair runs through March 18, so parents can still shop for new reads for their children and friends or as gifts while supporting the Lower School Library. Click here to shop!
Thank you to all for supporting the Lower School Book Fair and instilling a love of reading in our youngest learners!
