Last Friday, students in Mr. Zahller’s Exploratory Botany Biology class went on a field trip to the Danforth Plant Science Center. There, students received an in-depth tour of leading-edge plant science and biotechnology. Their tour was led by Dr. Ruth Kaggwa, the scientist who has been collaborating with the students throughout the trimester. Students also had the chance to characterize mutant millets (Seteria Veridis), a species of small-seeded grass. The tour included field stations, plant transformation, root imaging, growth chambers, electron microscopy, an automated phenotyper, greenhouses and a tech tour with the maker group. Catch a glimpse of some of the action.
