On August 13, MICDS football players, along with student managers and coaches, volunteered in Waynesville, MO, after recent severe flooding in the area. MICDS students helped guide families through the Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) and assisted with clean-up efforts in Roubidoux Park.
“These generous students dedicated one of their last days of summer vacation to help families they don’t even know,” said Cindy Erickson, CEO of the American Red Cross Greater St. Louis Region. “The entire community is grateful for their hard work.”
The Rams football team is currently participating in a long-standing tradition – its pre-season “live-in” on campus. A crucial objective of the live-in experience is building team unity. According to Rams Head Coach Josh Smith, community service work is an especially meaningful way for players to give back and bond as teammates. Athletic teams and the School as a whole will continue to seek additional community service opportunities throughout the school year.
“The fact that they came all the way from St Louis to help the Waynesville community recover means more than words can say,” said Red Cross representative Debi Meeds. “They brought compassion and caring, as well as the willingness to work – and that gives the community increased hope for recovery.”
