Homecoming 2019 Recap

Once again, the entire MICDS community came together for a weekend of fun and school spirit for this year’s Homecoming. After a spirited week at school, the weekend activities started with a parade of varsity players through Beasley, the Middle School Pep Rally and a food-truck Friday on campus in the evening. Students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff gathered between Thomas and Taylor Fields to enjoy treats and each others’ company while listening to live music from 9th Grade band The Attic.

Then everyone headed to McDonnell Gymnasium for the Pep Rally. The rally began with our traditional bagpiper procession before varsity captains introduced their teams. Loud music and spotlights pumped up the crowd and got everyone excited for the next day’s competitions. The bagpipers then led everyone back across campus, where the football team lit a bonfire and led the crowd in singing the Country Day fight song.

Saturday began bright and early as both Rams and Bombers gathered at John Burroughs School for the annual MICDS-JBS Fun Run. Children on scooters mingled with serious runners and more laid back strollers as they waited for the race to start. The Girls and Boys Cross Country teams were the first to start, kicking off the competition for the day. After they took off, the rest of the crowd enjoyed the 2.6-mile walk or run from JBS to MICDS.

Families gathered at the McDonnell Athletic Center (MAC) mid-morning to enjoy the MICDS Family Carnival. With games, prizes, face painters, balloon artists and inflatable playhouses, the Carnival had something for kids of all ages.
