International #BFast4Lunch : America

As this school year comes to an end, so does the route for our #BFast4Lunch program. We’ve explored a wide variety of morning flavors and traditions, from enjoying tapas in Mexico to savoring seafood in Japan. This month, we’re ending the journey right here in our home country by serving a traditional American Breakfast. Our Action Station will include blueberry pancakes, an American Harvest skillet, and fresh orange slices to round it out.

Did you know?

  • Our concept of traditional “breakfast food” didn’t develop until the late 1800s. Until then, breakfast food looked a lot like lunch or dinner
  • Having yogurt for breakfast didn’t become popular until much later – around the 1980s
  • In the U.S., breakfast is the most frequently skipped meal (this is a shame!)
  • Breakfast helps stabilize blood sugar levels, which means you’re less likely to overeat unhealthy foods for the rest of the day
  • Ham and eggs, which are considered common American breakfast foods, were also the favorites of Egyptians in 1500 B.C.

To optimize energy levels and stay healthy, be sure to make breakfast a regular part of your morning routine. For ideas, check out the breakfast menu on our school dining site (listed below) and while you’re there, leave us a comment to let us know what you would like to see on our breakfast menu!
