The MICDS Varsity Cheerleading squad recently hosted their popular cheer clinic, welcoming 29 enthusiastic young athletes from Beasley Lower School. This exciting three-day event provided a unique opportunity for the next generation to experience the thrill of cheerleading firsthand.
Under the guidance of the varsity team, younger students learned a variety of skills, from the fundamentals of a powerful cheer clap to more advanced techniques like a thigh-stand tripod stunt, dynamic split jumps, and an energetic dance routine.
The grand finale was initially planned to be a spirited performance between the girls‘ and boys‘ varsity basketball games against JBS. However, an unforeseen local water main break required a slight change of plans. The cheerleaders adapted with grace and enthusiasm, hosting an intimate yet electrifying show for their proud parents.
Varsity Cheerleading Coach Katherine Fraley ’15 said, „Bringing back the clinic tradition has been so rewarding. It is really gratifying to see the impact that the upper schoolers have on the Beasley students. I hope the Beasley students have lasting memories of learning from the upper schoolers! Every year, this is such a fulfilling experience, and we look forward to hosting more in the coming years!“
Two of the three varsity captains shared their thoughts on the experience. Elysa Abramov ’25 said, „I really like watching the kids learn and return every year. They seem to like it and bond with the same students year after year. Watching them grow, learn, and remember stunts from last year is rewarding. They’re all different ages, and after a long day, getting them to listen for two hours can be challenging, but they try super hard to stay focused, and they’ve been doing a great job. We also have plenty of time to joke around and have fun, and they know sometimes we have to get serious to make the routine great.“
Macy Lubak ’25 shared, „It’s fun to see how enthusiastic the students are. One of the girls told us she was super upset last year because she couldn’t do the cheer clinic, so she’s thrilled to be here this year. A few Mini Rams aren’t able to join the final performance but are still really excited about the clinic. It makes us happy because we love doing it as much as they do. We hope they will continue into our middle school cheer program!
With smiles, cheers, and a shared love for the sport, the MICDS Cheer clinic once again demonstrated the power of mentorship and community, inspiring the next generation of Rams cheerleaders.
