Second Graders were part of a city-wide student visit to Powell Hall on Tuesday to watch the Saint Louis Symphony perform Lemony Snicket’s “The Composer is Dead.” Prior to the show, the STL Symphony provided a variety of resources including vocabulary and instrument note cards for students to study so they could recognize some of the words and instruments being used. After the 45-minute performance, students were given a brief tour of Powell Hall.
Meanwhile, third grade classes visited the Missouri History Museum where they went behind the scenes to participate in the”Curator for a Day” program at the museum. Third grade teacher Ms. Schmoll shared, “They learned about three Museum jobs: Curator, Conservator and Exhibit Designer. They learned that the curator is the one who collects artifacts, a conservator cleans and takes care of artifacts, and the exhibit designer arranges all of those artifacts in a meaningful way.” Following their guided tour, students had a classroom experience at the museum where they got to handle real artifacts as they planned and designed an exhibit.
