The MICDS community was full of school spirit and gratitude for the return of our Homecoming festivities last weekend. (See photos below!)
Students began celebrating early with Spirit Week, where they dressed according to themes throughout the week:
- Monday: Color Wars (each grade assigned a color)
- Tuesday: Western Wear
- Wednesday: Homecoming T-Shirt Day
- Thursday: Jersey Day (pick your favorite pro, college, or high school team)
- Friday: School Spirit Day (red and green everywhere!)
On Friday, we held an all-school pep rally in Ron Holtman Stadium. Our Athletic Council co-heads introduced the varsity teams (who then introduced their players) and the crowd enjoyed performances by the cheerleaders and a “true” tale from Head of School Jay Rainey. The fun event was capped with a sack race with participants from each division and a soccer shoot-out among faculty (won by the Upper School ringer and Varsity Soccer Head Coach Jack Fisher).
Friday night we welcomed the entire MICDS community to campus for a delicious dinner courtesy of several food trucks. The gorgeous evening meant families gathered and visited for hours. Upper School band Red Cow entertained guests from the tennis pavilion.
After the sun set, bagpipes could be heard drifting down from the Upper School campus. These musicians led our varsity cheerleaders and football players from the McDonnell Gym past May Hall and Olson Hall, down the path next to the MAC, to our bonfire field. Senior football players lit the bonfire to cheers, before breaking out in the Codasco fight song. What a fun evening for our community!
Saturday morning started bright and early with our annual Fun Run, taking place from John Burroughs School to the MICDS campus this year.
Shortly after the Fun Run, varsity athletics began their competitions across the MICDS campus (JV teams competed at Burroughs). It was wonderful to see so many fans show up for the games!
The Family Carnival was a ton of fun for our youngest community members. They enjoyed bounce houses and face painting on the lawn behind Olson Hall.
Homecoming culminated in the varsity football game, kicked off by the Ram Run. Students decked in white charged down the path from McDonnell gym to Ron Holtman stadium, filling the student section and cheering on their team with gusto. The stands were packed for a great game where the Rams defeated the Bombers 35-0.
Thank you to everyone who made this weekend a success, and to our worthy opponents at John Burroughs School. What a great time for everyone! Go Rams!
