Saturday, October 28 provided the perfect fall morning for hundreds of prospective families to visit MICDS for Open House—a time for families to learn more about the Schoool, meet faculty and administrators, ask questions about the admission process and explore all the opportunities MICDS has to offer. This year’s Open House brought members from the entire community together—from parents to students and faculty—to greet prospectives and show them a true taste of MICDS hospitality and our vibrant community.
Brian Thomas opened the morning for Upper and Middle School prospective families, talking about his journey to MICDS and how everyone is welcome here. Head of School Lisa Lyle shared more about the School’s demographics, academic engagement, test scoring, athletics, the arts, student organizations and more. Families also heard from MICDS parent Steve Hughes and senior Leigh Dennis `18 about their respective experiences. Then, families broke into separate Upper and Middle School sessions, where they heard from Scott Small and Jenn Schuckmann as well as panels of students.
In the Lower School, prospective families explored on their own with a Passport/sticker-collecting activity for the children. Specialists led activities for prospective students, and families enjoyed a photo booth along with a visit from the MICDS Ram. The Lower School Open House also featured a panel followed by a Q&A. The panel included Janet McMillion, Donna Waters and Beasley Parents Kelly Write and Kymberly Minner.
