Six MICDS Upper School thespians, under the guidance of Upper School Drama Teacher Carolyn Hood, attended the Missouri Thespian State Conference on January 9-11 in Kansas City, Missouri. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate for the full conference experience this year. The students and teachers packed in as much fun and learning as possible before the weather spurred them to come home earlier than planned.
Congrats to the following MICDS students for their notable accomplishments! Charles Huber ’20 was chosen to represent MICDS for set and lighting design of the all-state production of A Street Car Named Desire. MacKenzie Macam ’20 received a superior rating for stage management. Bryn Daney ’20 received a superior rating for musical theater solo and was invited to perform at the International Thespian Conference. Haley Driver ’20, Mereya Riopedre ’20 and Hope Pohlman ’20 all received excellent ratings for acting.
Macam shared, « Even though we had to leave early, the conference was a blast this year. We attended lots of workshops and even took a sword-fighting class! I also participated in an Individual Event for stage management and received a superior rating – the highest award given. Stage managing has been one of the best highlights during my time here at MICDS, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me in the future. »
