Beasley students enjoyed a morning of opera and opera lessons with the “Opera on the GO!” program on Tuesday. Guests from Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’ Opera on the GO! 2019 program held three workshops for our 2nd through 4th graders. The workshops focused on singing, movement and stage makeup. Some students even got to participate in makeup demonstrations!
After the workshops, the morning capped off with a performance of Rossini’s Cinderella joined by our 1st Grade students who are studying a fairy tale unit later this year. “The Cinderella story that Rossini used is a bit different than the version our students were used to,” shared Ms. Barb Spieler, Lower School Music Teacher. “Beasley students were fascinated with the different details.”
In this version, there’s no fairy Godmother nor evil stepmother, but there is a mean stepfather. Cinderella has two bracelets instead of glass slippers. The Prince and his servant switch places with each disguised as the other.
Although there wasn’t enough time for an encore, our students can’t wait for “Opera on the GO!” to visit again next year!
