The MICDS Parents Association held its final meeting of the school year on April 13 in the form of the annual PA Spring Luncheon. Event Co-Chairs Ayumi Cullen P ’25 and Jenny Loeb P ’20, ’25 beautifully transformed the Olson Hall Presentation Room to reflect our St. Louis spring with tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and more! Many enthusiastic parents and guardians attended the luncheon, including 15 senior parents and four past PA presidents. The past presidents in attendance were Michelle Cohen ’88 P ’23, ’17, Nela Navarrine P ’15, ’18, ’21, ’24, Stephanie Kolman P ’20, ’22, ’23, ’26, and McKay Mills ’92, P ’23, ’28.
A delicious catered menu was enjoyed while PA President Kelly Wright P ’25, ’27, ’29 welcomed all and conducted the business portion of the meeting. To begin, our School’s leadership and administration were recognized for their partnership throughout the year. Partnering with our School’s leadership is crucial for the success of every PA event!
Our Head of School, Jay Rainey, then offered a fun and entertaining recap of the recent Clash of Classes, where JK-12 classes at an all-school assembly were tested on their ability to identify current pop culture characters. From Bluey and Paw Patrol to Pokemon and gaming characters, the second graders, Class of 2033, emerged victorious! Mr. Rainey also promoted the upcoming MICDS Arts Fest by emphasizing the importance of personal creativity in education and everyday life.
The current executive board and many event chairs were then recognized by the PA President for their leadership and great work in bringing the many PA events to successful fruition. Every PA event was held on campus and in person with great attendance. The year-in-review presented greatly highlighted the strong and vibrant parent community of our School. Beginning with the PA Fall Coffee, the PA sponsored and organized more than 75 events this year. From the fifth-grade Halloween party, Homecoming celebrations, and Turkey Train hot chocolate to the many Passport Series events, senior celebrations, and Spring Luncheon, our events were numerous!
Finally, the incoming PA leadership for 2023-2024 was welcomed and included an introduction of the new members of the executive board and the class parent chairs and vice chairs. To close the meeting, the gavel was passed to officially mark the transition to the new Parents Association President, Annie Sloane P ’20, ’25. We are grateful for the leadership of outgoing president Kelly Wright and look forward to the year ahead under the leadership of Annie Sloane.
The PA’s mission to foster a strong, positive, and active partnership between our School and families was easily achieved this year through our vibrant parent community and our School’s strong leadership. The Parents Association is grateful to all MICDS parents in our community for their involvement and continued support.
The next Parents Association meeting, and the first for the 2023-24 school year, will be the Fall Coffee and Committee Fair to be held on August 25, 2023. We encourage all to attend and keep our PA strong. Go Rams!
