Rocking and Rolling at Skate Week 2023

It’s difficult not to dance to the bumping beats with a bevy of Lower School students during our annual Skate Week! For nearly three decades, the South Gym has transformed into a roller rink (minus the disco ball) while Lower School P.E. Teachers Jim Lohr and Susan Orlando help students coast through the complex motor and balance skills of rollerskating. On day one, students learn the safety rules and start their skating adventure on a large piece of carpet before transitioning to the wood floor by day two or three. Orlando said, “Our JK through fourth graders build confidence while we teach them balance, endurance, and flexibility, all of which establish a foundation for all sports and activities.”

For added excitement, parents are invited to lace up and join in the fun. Even a few middle schoolers couldn’t help peeking in to watch and reminisce about their Skate Week time not so long ago. With lots of laughs and a handful of spills, everyone had a great time rocking and rolling around the gym!

Wheels up, Rams!
