Fifth graders are not only learning fractions, they are saving their spaceships too! Middle School Math Teacher Jody Marberry gave the students this challenge:
Your crew is traveling through space when you receive a warning that aliens across the universe have been infiltrating spaceships and turning all the astronauts into aliens. You quickly turn on your temporary space shield, but now you have only 45 minutes until the aliens break through. You have to initiate the “Titania Space Shield” before the aliens take over the spaceship and the crew is lost.
How is this special space shield activated? The students break out the launch codes from the box provided by solving math problems and puzzles involving fractions. Check out the photos below to see some of our students working hard on their fraction lessons to save their spaceships!
