Senior Parents Celebrate at MICDS

Years of hard work and dedication come into sharp focus during a child’s senior year of high school. It’s a culmination, a celebration, and a year of “lasts” before launching into a relatively unknown world and a future of hopes and dreams. It’s also an opportunity to celebrate the individuals who helped the students arrive well-equipped for their final farewell. This week, MICDS celebrated the Class of 2025 parents in the sweet spot of senior year before the calendar pace picks up in the race to the finish line.

The informal gathering included food, fun, and good conversation. Parents heard from Head of School Jay Rainey and a fellow senior parent, Shalini Paruthi Malhotra P’25, ’28. In between, parents connected and reminisced over photos of their students from JK and SK and seventh-grade advisories up to the official senior class group photo taken just last week. Parents sharing laughs and rebonding over bittersweet memories was a perfect start to a milestone year.

Mr. Rainey took the mic to share a few remarks about this special year for some first-timers and those who have walked the senior parent path a time or two already. He noted a recent professional development opportunity for faculty and staff that had just started that morning and said, “In my role as Head of School, I know how great of a school we are. But to have a first-hand opportunity to be in the presence of great teaching, I feel heartened and proud to be the head of this school. It’s an exceptional school with a constant appetite for learning and growth.” He encouraged parents to reflect on the length of time they have been at MICDS and to take a moment to think about the teachers, coaches, and advisors who have made such a difference to their children.

Shalini, a member of the School’s Development Committee, shared remarks encouraging parents to consider a meaningful gift to the MICDS Fund in honor of their Class of 2025 student. “We feel so blessed to have all of you in our lives and all the friendships we’ve made. Our class is a very big family!”

Here’s to a wealth of special memories for the Class of 2025 families that will last a lifetime!
