During enrichment programming on Wednesday, the class of 2018 was given the opportunity to quiz college-aged alums from the class of 2017 on anything and everything about life after MICDS. The questions ranged from «What’s it like living in a dorm with a stranger?» to «What’s the workload really like in college?» Each alum brought a different perspective to the panel. One alum, Josh Porter `17, who attends Maryville University, discussed the challenges of setting boundaries with his parents. Another, Hannah Dove `17, talked about her experience at Miami University (OH) where there are close to 15,000 undergrads — a stark difference from the tight knit community of MICDS.
Not surprisingly, seniors also learned that college freshman who graduated from MICDS feel strongly prepared for college, especially when it comes to writing. Hope Keeley `17, who now attends Bowdoin College, shared, «Your ability to write a 3-page or 5-page paper — that will serve you like nothing else. Being able to write that paper…you’ve already done that in high school!»
This is the second year the college counseling office has hosted such an event, and they plan to continue the tradition year-to-year to further prepare seniors for life after MICDS.
We’ve also caught a few of our young alums on camera recently to share how MICDS prepared them for college. Hear from Louisa Goldman ’16 on our Facebook page, and be on the lookout for more alum spotlights in the future!
