The MICDS Class of 2019 took a final tour through campus as students on May 2, their last day of school. They paraded through all three divisions as their younger classmates, faculty and staff cheered and shared high-fives. Even the rain couldn’t dampen spirits as the entire School community celebrated their time at MICDS. This is the second year of a new tradition that unites all three divisions in a show of support for graduating seniors.
Senior Class President Jordan Rothrock ’19 led the processing, carrying the class flag. The Class of 2019 chose a beachy theme, sporting Hawaiian prints and leis. Middle Schoolers waved signs of congratulations and recognizing their Upper School sports heroes. After their route through Danforth Hall, Beasley and May Hall, the seniors gathered in Founders Court in raucous celebration, chanting Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes and singing along to Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. Parents cheered and documented the festivities with cell phones and tablets. There were a few tears of joy and lots of laughter.
Finally, the Class of 2019 presented the class flag to the rising seniors of the Class of 2020, who were happy to receive it and take on the mantle of student leadership. The next time they’ll walk together is on May 19 at Commencement.
Congratulations to the Class of 2019!
Middle Schoolers Spring Fling
Before the seniors enjoyed their last tour of campus as students, their younger classmates in the Middle School celebrated their own tradition with their Spring Fling. As has happened for the last several years, the Fling was moved indoors to the South Gym due to rain, but that didn’t stop students from having a blast. Inflatable obstacle courses and yard games filled the gym, while giant Jenga games spilled over into the hallway. What a fun way to spend a recess during these last few hectic weeks of school!
