Before Thanksgiving, MICDS sixth graders embarked on a gratitude mission by asking, „How can we thank the great people in our community?“ So many different people and departments within our MICDS community work hard every day to make the School the best it can be. Students were prompted to consider how much work and planning occurs behind the scenes, what it looks like, and how often they think these individuals are getting praise and recognition for their work.
Each advisory then identified a person or group to thank and created items to share their thanks, such as thank you cards, posters, a presentation in a grade level or divisional meeting, a thank you video, and more.
The final products were delivered during community time on the last day before Thanksgiving break. They included thanks for our security, housekeeping, maintenance, and grounds teams, and Middle School teams such as our Community Leadership Committee (CLC).
Archit Saravanan ’30 shared that his group made a candy poster for CLC with phrases such as „When we don’t have Middle School Meeting, it’s a ‚Sour Patch‘ in our week.“
The Sousa-Charleville advisory wanted to share their shoutout in the Weekly News, so here it is: „We would like to give a shout-out to our amazing maintenance, grounds, and housekeeping teams for all the hard work they do to keep our school ready for us every day.“
Sixth-graders in the Delfin advisory also created candy posters with puns. Jules Poucel ’30 said, „We created a candy post for Avdo Siljkovic, a Middle School Housekeeping team member. It was really fun when we got to make funny puns about the candy, and it was also fun that we could work together with our ideas and ended up taking one piece of candy and stringing the puns into a sentence. I don’t really know the person who cleans our classroom, but it was nice to thank them for cleaning up after us every day.“ Zach Kuznetsov ’30 added, „The coolest and most heartwarming thing about the project was that we were able to thank him and give him a sweet treat at the same time.“
In the Bambenek advisory, sixth graders built a laser-cut plaque for the maintenance team because they know how hard they work each day and wanted to show their support for how they clean and fix things around campus. Marlowe Deibel, Pierce Jones, Connor Berkes, Bentley Maurer, Samir Daud, and Wyatt Eggers shared, „We put ‚Rams at Work‘ at the top, then ‚Thank You, Maintenance, from your Ram Fam‘ on the back, then we all signed it. We presented it to Mr. Coff, who put it above Mr. Campbell’s office for the whole team to see. We didn’t even realize their office was there, and now we know where it is,“ said the group.
These are just a few examples of the kindness shared by our sixth graders before the break. Thank you, Rams, for caring for our community!
