Squash Hosts Big Tournament, Girls Win Title and Boys Win 2nd Place
Over the weekend, the Varsity Boys and Girls Squash teams hosted one of the biggest team tournaments in the Midwest. Teams traveled from Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee to compete in the inaugural MICDS Ashes Invitational Squash Tournament.
Six teams competed in the girls’ division, with the Rams coming out victorious after winning each one of their matches. The team put on a dominant display of squash thanks to strong individual performances. Annabelle Medler ’24, Charlotte Medler ’26, Charlotte Derdeyn ’24, and senior co-captain Kareena Kanumury ’23 won all their matches 3-0 and did not drop a single game. The game of the tournament came from Rhea Patnana ’23, senior co-captain, who enthralled the home crowd by snatching a come-from-behind victory, 3-2, at the number three position Against a strong Seven Hills team to clinch the tournament title for the Rams.
MICDS vs. John Burroughs: won 7-0
Seven teams competed in the boys’ division, with the Rams finishing second behind a solid St. Andrew’s (FL) team. Our inaugural Ashes Tournament gave the boys plenty of chances to test their skills against other players, improve their game, and make new friends. Each match was nothing short of impressive. Overall, it was a spectacular showing by the boys team, who made the most of the opportunities provided by the tournament to improve their game and have a memorable experience.
MICDS vs. St. Andrew’s School (FL): lost 0-7
