Cross Country Standout Makes All-Metro Team for Fourth Time

For the fourth year in a row, cross country star Julia Ray ’23 made the 2022 Big River All-Metro Cross Country First Team! She was selected based on her season’s accomplishments, her head-to-head finishes, and her placement/time at this past fall’s State meet. Way to run, Julia!

Freshman Makes All-State Orchestra

Congratulations to Ellie Chen ’26 for winning a highly competitive audition and for being awarded a spot as one of just 14 cellists in Missouri invited to play in the All-State Orchestra. “I think that it’s amazing how far hard work and faith can get you,” she said. “To be able to participate in All-State is a great honor to me, and I thank my teachers especially for helping me get to this point. I’m glad that my past self was able to pick up my instrument, even if occasionally unwillingly, and go through every minute and hour of thorough practice. I hope that my hard work will continue on, not only in All-State but in the rest of my high school, and eventually, college career.” Bravo, Ellie!

Boys Basketball Wins Tipoff Tournament

The MICDS Boys Basketball team won the MICDS Tipoff Tournament Championship, defeating Westminster Christian Academy 52-35. Read a recap of the game on STL Today. Brin Lewis ’23 made five 3-pointers and scored 17 points in total and Marcus Coleman ’23 scored 14. Head Coach Travis Wallace is also quoted in the article.

Girls Squash Wins Tom Flannagan Invitational Tournament in Pennsylvania

The Varsity Girls Squash team traveled to Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, last weekend (Dec. 2-3) to compete in the Tom Flannagan Invitational Tournament. In the first round, they defeated Shady Side Academy (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) 9-0 before playing the number one seed, Potomac (Virginia), in the semi-finals, where they won 8-1. In the finals, the team played the number two seed, St. Catherine’s (Richmond, Virginia), in which MICDS won 7-2. Not only did the team display strong squash skills, but they showed great camaraderie and sportsmanship. Way to go, Rams!

The MICDS team last won the Tom Flannagan Invitational in 2017 and finished second to St. Catherine’s in 2018 and 2019 before COVID put a halt to travel in 2020 and 2021. Go Rams!

Rachel Li ’24, Chelsey Nwamu ’23, and Stella Kreisel ’23 were selected to the First Team, and Bennett Baur ’25 was selected to the Second Team. Way to go, Rams!

Wrestling Fills Six of the Top Eight Spots
