Ameer Hajji in the Spotlight in STL Today

In an article on STL Today, Ameer Hajji ’24 is highlighted as a star ice hockey player on the MICDS team. The article covers how he followed his brother’s footsteps at a young age in pursuing hockey, how he first became interested in the sport, and how he recently earned 100 points in his high school hockey career. Ameer plays Triple-A hockey for the Jr. Blues and is a captain for the MICDS Ice Hockey team. Check out the full article here!

Meet Zoo Alive's Newest Co-President

Congratulations to Abigail Derdeyn ‘25 who was just recently been elected Co-President of the St. Louis Zoo Teen Volunteer Program, Zoo Alive! Abby has been a volunteer in the Zoo Alive Program since the summer after her freshman year and has consistently put in over 100 volunteer hours a year earning her the Presidential Volunteer award this year. Her responsibilities have ranged from being a summer camp counselor at Camp KangaZoo and Camp Joey, working at the Stingray exhibit to help teach guests the proper way to pet the stingrays, and supporting conservation efforts such as feeding endangered snails every Saturday morning (that were eventually sent back to Tahiti) to caring for and feeding endangered beetles and releasing them back to the wild in defined habitats in Southern Missouri and many more activities. A roar of applause to Abby for her new well-earned leadership role!

Junior to Represent Australia in the 2024 U20 Womens World Lacrosse Championships

Junior Hattie Sloane ’25 has been selected to represent Australia in the 2024 U20 Womens World Lacrosse Championships to be held in Hong Kong in August! Hattie spent winter break in her native Australia attending various qualifying camps and participating in the Southern Crosse Lacrosse Tournament against teams from around the Pacific Rim. The 2024 Women’s U20 Championships in Hong Kong will host 20 competing countries, with Australia endeavoring to improve their bronze medal position from the 2019 World Championships. Go Hattie!

MICDS Student's Work to be Featured in High School Teapot Exhibition

Craft Alliance is once again partnering with The Ladue Horton Watkins Spiritas Gallery, to present the High School Teapot Exhibition. Our very own Hannah VanValkenburg ’25 will be featured in the exhibit in February. This exhibition will be presented in conjunction with Craft Alliance’s 19th Biennial Teapot Exhibition: Tea and Conversations, which opens in February 2024. The Opening Reception for the High School Teapot show is Thursday, February 15 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Way to go, Hannah!

First Place Victory for Sophomore Chess Player

Ash Falk ’26 took first place in the 10th-grade division at the Gateway Chess League tournament in Belleville, Illinois this past Saturday, January 13. Amazing job, Ash!

Fourth Grader Earns First-Place Ribbons at Equestrian Event

Recently, Nora L. ’32 competed at the “Meet Me in St. Louis” winter event at the National Equestrian Center in Lake Saint Louis. She took home several first-place ribbons and scored enough points in her class to be the reserve champion in the cross-rails division of the show!   Congrats, Nora!
