Senior Commits to Washburn University
Congratulations to Cortlin Dalton ’23 who has committed to play football at Washburn University! We can’t wait to cheer him on as he takes his football career to the next level. Congratulations, Cortlin!
Brin Lewis '23 Scores Big for MICDS Basketball
Senior Brin Lewis ’23 scored an incredible 22 points, including five 3-pointers, in the MICDS Boys Basketball team’s victory over Whitfield on March 1. Way to go, Brin!
5th & 6th Grade Drama Club Presents Annual Drama Club Showcase
Last Friday was the fourth annual Drama Club Performance Showcase by the Fifth and Sixth Grade Drama Club! Middle & Lower School Drama Teacher Missy Heinemann shared, «We hosted over 65 family members and friends to this event, which featured 26 actors who collectively performed a total of nine acts including improv, original scripts, and scenes from published authors.» Eighth-grader Grant Krainik ’27 emceed the event, which was also supported by seventh-grade co-directors Priyasha Munshi ’28 and Chloe Shamsham ’27. «It was a great night of live theater, and gave our fifth and sixth-grade students a wonderful chance to experience performing for a live audience in the Freeman Theater!» adds Heinemann. Hopefully, we will see many of these young actors again next year for the seventh and eighth-grade play.
Rams Win Championship Flag Football Game
Every year, Des Peres Park Services hosts a Flag Football League with over 70 teams from the metro area. A team of MICDS 11U flag footballers won the championship game 15 to 0 to finish the season 6-1! Boys Squash Places 13th in US Squash High School Nationals Tournament
The MICDS Boys Squash team traveled to Philadelphia last weekend to play in the Arlen Spector Center. Their strong season concluded with a spirited performance at the US Squash High School Nationals Tournament where they placed 13th in Division III!
The Boys Varsity Squash team has had an incredible season this year, playing an incredible 21 matches, a program first. The season culminated with the team showcasing their talents and skill at the US Squash High School Nationals Tournament.
The Boys played in Division III for a second time this year. The first two rounds, unfortunately, saw the team losing narrowly to Hackley and Whitman schools. The team won their next two matches against St Luke’s School and SCH Boys. A special mention must be reserved for Henry Byrne ’23 for winning all his matches, a truly incredible feat.
The team demonstrated their talent and passion for the game throughout the season. They put in long hours of practice, pushing themselves to improve. They worked as a team, supporting and encouraging one another on and off the court. Their spirited performance earned them the respect and admiration of their competitors and spectators.
As the season draws to a close, the Boys Varsity Squash team can reflect on their impressive accomplishments. They can be proud of their strong season. Their hard work, dedication, and passion have paid off, and they have demonstrated what it truly means to be a team.
Girls Varsity Squash Improves National Ranking at the U.S. Squash High School Nationals Tournament
The MICDS Girls Varsity Squash team had an outstanding performance at the U.S. Squash High School Nationals Tournament this past weekend, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The team, which won the Division III National title last year, was seeded 5th in Division II this year and arrived with an unwavering determination to succeed in their new division.
In the first round, the team faced Brearley and won impressively with a score of 5-2. The Rams continued their momentum into the quarter-finals, where they faced Choate, a team they had narrowly defeated earlier in the season. This time, the Rams came out victorious with a convincing 5-2 win, thanks to key performances from Annabelle Medler ’24, Charlotte Medler ’26, Abby Derdeyn ’25, Charlotte Derdeyn ’24, and Bridget Clennan ’24.
In the semi-finals, the Rams faced the number 1 seed, Andover, who eventually went on to win the tournament. Despite a valiant effort, the Rams fell short with a score of 2-5. However, the team remained focused and determined to finish strong in the 3rd/4th place playoff.
The Rams battled against Pingry and secured a 4-3 win with outstanding performances from the Medler and Derdeyn sisters. With this impressive victory, the team finished 3rd in Division II, the highest division in which the MICDS team has ever competed. This result also led to an overall improvement in the team’s national ranking, finishing in 19th place, a significant jump from their 33rd-place ranking last year.
