Senior Earns Squash Scholar Athlete Award

As a result of her success on the squash court and in the classroom, the U.S. Squash Association named Annalisa Goot ’21 as a recipient of the 2019-2020 U.S. Squash Scholar-Athlete Award.
The award is given each September to students who demonstrate dedication to their studies, achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher, while maintaining an active squash schedule by participating in accredited junior squash tournaments and/or on their high school squash teams.

“This award is especially meaningful to me,” shares Annalisa, “because it highlights my dedication to both academics and my performance on the squash courts. I know the difficulties that come with being a student-athlete, and I am honored to be recognized for my commitment to academics and athletics. I am so fortunate to have been part of the MICDS squash program and all of the opportunities that it has presented me with, and I can’t wait to see what our team will accomplish this season!”

Annalisa was a tri-captain of the MICDS Girls Squash team last year, and she was also awarded MVP and Hardest Worker by her coaches and teammates. The team finished 8th place in Division III in the U.S. Squash High School Nationals. Way to go, Annalisa!

Junior Helps Tackle Different Issues in the St. Louis Region

Coumba Diallo ’22 was accepted to FOCUS Saint Louis’ Youth Saint Louis Leadership Program! The Youth Leadership St. Louis program, according to their website (linked above), “is an internationally recognized program that informs, connects, prepares, and empowers St. Louis area youth to become civic and community leaders.

“Each year, YLSL brings together high school juniors from approximately 30 public, private, and parochial schools from across the region, as well as Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri. No other program in St. Louis draws such a large and diverse group of students – 150 students representing 55 ZIP codes. Each program day immerses the students into a different issue in the region, giving them the opportunity to connect and learn from community leaders, collaborate with their peers, and put their leadership skills into action.”

She begins the program today as one of the Girl Scout Representatives. Congratulations, Coumba!
