Junior Receives Pathos Prize for Best Writing in Cambridge Re:think Essay Competition 2024

Congratulations to Isabelle Cox-Garleanu ’26 who is the only recipient of the Pathos Prize for Best Writing, awarded by the Cambridge Centre for International Research among 4,200 submissions! « I wrote about linguistics and how the governments of former French colonies continue to enforce the French language, impacting the evolving social landscape that is increasingly becoming more anglophone or linguistically diverse. My analysis centered on Senegal, Morocco, and Canada. Additionally, I examined the perspective of many francophone women who view the language as sexist and believe it marginalizes women. » According to the CCIR website, « Pathos is understood as the capacity for a work to appeal to emotions, spark sympathy, empathy, or passion. This prize [is] awarded to the essay which is deemed by the judged to be the most emotionally, aesthetically, and artistically compelling. »

Way to write, Isabelle!
