Student Standouts: Dreisewerd ’21, Richards ’21, Messey ’26, Field Hockey and Football in the News
Congratulations to this week’s standouts below. Way to go #RamNation! And as always, if you have a story to share, please email weeklynews@micds.org.
A Swimmer to Watch
Greg Dreisewerd ’21 is a “swimmer to watch” according to STL High School Sports. At the Class 1 State meet last year, he earned two individual medals: 7th in the 500-yard freestyle and 8th in the 100 butterfly. He also helped the Rams earn two more medals in the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams. Look for him in the pool this season!
Summer Cycling Success
Fiona Richards ’21, a co-captain of the MICDS Cycling team, continued to race in criterium cycling races in both Junior’s and Women’s divisions over the summer. In August, she won the Missouri State Championship Criterium in the Junior Women Age 15-16 Division. Way to go, Fiona!
Ram Chosen for New Years Classic Baseball Tournament
Drew Messey ’26 has been chosen by Game Day USA to play in the New Years Classic Baseball Tournament at Disney/ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida! He will represent the Midwest NTIS Baseball Team. Tim Canavan, MICDS Varsity Baseball Coach, said, “I was so impressed that Drew made it all the way to Cary, North Carolina, for the USA National Team Identification Series! He was chosen from a pool of thousands of kids across the country. It’s been a lot of fun working with him at our camps and seeing him in the stands at our games. He’s a talented, dedicated ballplayer, and I can’t wait to get him in the Upper School program.”
Field Hockey in the News
The MICDS field hockey team was in the news this week in this West Newsmagazine article. Right off the bat, the Rams won their pool of the Gateway Classic which took place on Saturday; all of the games were packed into one day due to the weather. The article quotes Head Field Hockey Coach Lynn Mittler who shared, ‘We warmed up at 8:30 a.m. and lifted the trophy at 10 p.m. I think it was good affirmation of their hard work, but they are also aware that there is an entire season ahead of them.” The Rams had a full, successful day with several players standing out as mentioned in the article. After a 7-0 victory over Kirkwood on Wednesday, the team will be in action this Friday to take on undefeated St. Joseph’s Academy who also won their pool at the Classic.
Comeback Victory for the Rams
The MICDS football team has had a stellar start to the season! They’ve recently been included in two articles by STL High School Sports. In this article, a brief summary of their exciting season opener is included, showcasing how Reagan Andrew ’22 made a successful pass to Nate Smith ’21 with eight seconds remaining in the game to clinch a comeback win for the Rams, 34-27. A more detailed recap of the game is included here, also highlighting Steve Hall ’23 and Will Kacmarek ’21. Way to go, Rams!
