When the school year ends and students and teachers scatter, the campus settles quietly down and peace reigns…for about a week. Then once again, this unbelievable space designed for children comes alive again with laughter, learning, and the making of new memories. Summer at MICDS continues the creative engagement of students through Camp Pegasus, Eliot Summer Academy, and our Rams Sports Camps.
Camp Pegasus
There’s no better way to dive into summer than by attending Camp Pegasus. Campers ranging in age from rising kindergartners to rising sixth graders explore an array of exciting activities in the arts, sciences, technology, sports, and swimming to ensure their brains and bodies are actively engaged throughout the day. Seventh through ninth graders can take advantage of Tech Trek, gaining authentic scientific experiences and exploring creativity through exciting software, technology, and state-of-the-art computer and science labs at MICDS. Rising seven through 12th graders enjoy Summer Stock, a specialized program focused on theatre (acting skills, production assistance, and performance). The program is open to new and experienced actors and tech crew, and welcomes campers who are interested solely in the technical sides of the theater. At Camp Pegasus, caring instructors and counselors serve as positive role models and lead the way to fun new experiences.
This year, 1,250 Pegasus campers enjoyed six weeks of memories, friendship, and fun thanks to the efforts of Charlotte Dougherty, Tim Storey, Khannie Dastgah, and over 80 staff.
Eliot Summer Academy
Growth, learning, and fun don’t stop over the summer at MICDS. Named after school founder and visionary thinker William Greenleaf Eliot, Eliot Summer Academy challenges middle and high school students with an array of opportunities. Academic and enrichment courses allow students to stretch their limits both in and out of the classroom. Classes offered through Eliot Summer Academy are designed to be review or enrichment-oriented.
Review courses help students transition between coursework levels and allow them to redo work, catch up, or make up a course. Enrichment courses offer something new and may help students prepare for the next school year.
Sam Cummins and many of our teachers led 118 students through sessions ranging from 3D Video Game Design to Foundations for Applied Integrated Math, from Reading Strategies for the Writing Process to College Essay Writing in the Upper School, and similar programs geared toward Middle School students. Over 90% of our new, incoming Upper School students participated.
Rams Sports Camps
Our high-energy Rams Sports Camps keep athletes moving throughout the summer, offering valuable training time with top-notch MICDS coaches and some of our 350 student-athletes. Campers focus on developing skills and improving technique. All sports camps train in MICDS’ state-of-the-art athletic facilities for an even greater competitive edge. Rams Sports Camps offer a program for every athlete and give campers a taste of what it is like to play for #RamNation. These camps are run independently by coaches on our campus and are designed to provide the best possible instruction to help develop each individual’s skills and knowledge of the sport. Each camper will receive instruction on how to play the game and how to improve themselves both on and off the field.
This year, 783 campers participated in 14 sports (including Pickleball!) over nine weeks. Thank you to Justin French and our outstanding coaches for creating active fun over the summer.
What a fantastic summer for our campers!
