The Upper School Strings Ensemble sparked a chord with the MICDS community this morning by busking in the breezeway of Founders’ Court. For the half hour before school, the ensemble played familiar tunes from Mamma Mia and Harry Potter to Antonio Vivaldi and ABBA. With a crowd gathered to enjoy the beautiful music, listeners had the opportunity to donate to a great cause —the ensemble had a violin case open for contributions that will benefit The Open String, a non-profit agency that helps musicians in need by restoring string instruments and donating them to schools around the world. What a way to tune in to Friday!
Here’s the morning’s setlist:
- “Praeludium and Allegro” (Introduction) – Fritz Kreisler
- “Concerto in D Major #246” (1st Movement) – Antonio Vivaldi
- “Colors of the Wind” – Disney’s Pocahontas
- “Hedwig Goes to Westeros” – Harry Potter and Game of Thrones
- “Concerto in A minor #413, 1st Movement” – Antonio Vivaldi
- “Mamma Mia” – ABBA
