Upper School students finished in first and second place in their respective divisions at the annual TEAMS (Test of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science) competition on February 13. The 2016 TEAMS competition, “Engineering the Tools of Innovation,” explored tools engineers use in areas such as space exploration, effective manufacturing and microscopy.
The concepts are developed for the TEAMS competition based on the National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenges. Tackling these challenges requires critical job-readiness skills such as collaboration, analytical thinking, and multidimensional problem-solving.
During this one-day competition, students apply math and science knowledge in practical, creative ways to solve real-world engineering challenges.
MICDS team results are as follows: 12th grade – 1st place, 11/12 level; 11th grade – 2nd place, 11/12 level; 10th grade – 1st place in the division and 1st place in the 9/10 level; and 9th grade – 2nd place, 9/10 level. The students are coached by Upper School Science Teachers Michael Black and Sarah Tolch.
Congratulations to everyone.
