Walking into the Choir room, you are greeted by people singing these beautiful songs, and you can feel the emotion between the characters. Winter Term students are rehearsing for their production of The Little Mermaid Jr.
While the choir is singing, you can hear the tunes weaving together to create a beautiful synchronized song. You can hear that some songs are full of suspense while others make you jump with excitement. Some scenes fill you with tension and sometimes with laughter or relief.
On only day four they were doing extremely well. In the room, you would see Mr. Jason Roberts, MS Choir Teacher, and Ms. Charlotte Dougherty, MS 7/8 Dean and Drama Teacher directing the actors through the lines of script and song. Mrs. Erin Sutherlin, MS Counselor, showed them how to choreograph the dance during a song and led them through the dance. “In such a short amount of time they have grown immensely,” said Mr. Roberts. This is so true in every way possible.
The actors also seem to be characters in the play. Chloe Shamsham ‘28 is playing Ursula. She said, “It feels like you really get to get in character and I’m able to experience those perspectives of another character.” Some actors feel as if this is a new opportunity to improve, like Reagan Saur ‘29 as Ariel said, “I enjoy this, and I think that it is a good opportunity to work on our singing and vocals while improving your acting skills.” Even with all the perspectives, everyone seems to enjoy this big production.
These students have been doing so well, and I hope that they will continue to work hard and put on a great show. “Break a leg!”
