The Middle School chatter that filled Eliot Chapel faded as the lights went down. The music rose, and Upper School dancers Ava Cervera ’27, Maddie Karr ’27, Alexandra Smith ’27, and Evie Strope ’25 tapped, leaped, and pirouetted across the stage. The winter dance concert that took place last Friday, February 21, under the direction of Summer Beasley, Middle & Lower School PE Teacher, showcased the talent, artistry, and hard work that her dance students have devoted to the craft. „As an art form, dance conveys emotion, ideas, stories about life and experiences. Dance is an opportunity to experience and explore all the interesting ways the body can move,“ says Beasley.
The students chose the dance styles they wanted to perform, and, with the exception of one routine, all the dances were choreographed by the students. The Eliot Chapel stage is the best venue for the dance concert, but showcasing the incredible work of the Upper School dancers for the Middle School audience is a great way to promote the Upper School dance program.
