After-School Programs Archive
We offer a variety of after-school programming to fit the needs of every MICDS student and family. No matter which you choose, rest assured your child will be just as engaged after school as they are during the normal school day.
Extended Day
Extend your knowledge.
Our Extended Day program provides a vibrant learning experience in a safe, nurturing atmosphere for MICDS students in Junior Kindergarten through 6th grade who cannot be picked up right after school or who just want to stay and enjoy all that campus has to offer. Extended Day students enjoy a wide range of activities after school: making mosaics at the art studio, playing foursquare on the playground, snacking on a mid-afternoon treat, getting a jump start on their homework, learning to play a strings instrument and more.
The program also offers a host of enrichment activities that students are welcome to participate in for an added fee. Topics include activities like cuisine and culture, LEGO robotics, chess competitions, conversational Spanish lessons and much more.

- Full Period (3-5 days, 3:30-6:00 p.m.): $2,735
- Half-Week Option (1-2 days, 3:30-6:00 p.m.): $1,425
- Half-Period Option (3-5 days, 3:30-4:15 p.m.): $1,425

- Drop-In Option
MICDS also offers a daily drop-in option for Extended Day with no sign up needed. Costs are as follows:
- $5 through 4 p.m.
- $15 through 4:15 p.m.
- $25 dollars for any additional time spent in Extended Day up until 6:00 p.m.

Enrichment Classes
Enrich your life.
Our MICDS Enrichment Program provides students in Grades Junior Kindergarten-5th Grade with additional learning opportunities that are both fun and rewarding. Students explore their interests, strengthen friendships and challenge themselves, all while having a great time after school. Taught by MICDS teachers and outside organizations, classes typically meet for 6-8 weeks from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

- Chess (Mondays)
MICDS students in SK-4th grade, a maximum of 40 students
The En Passant Chess Club helps to expose kids of all ages to chess, even if they have no prior knowledge or experience. Students will participate in a tournament that will end with a medal and trophy presentation on the final day. - Beasley Ringers (Mondays)
MICDS students in 4th grade, a maximum of 12 students
*Please note, this is a 14-week class culminating in a performance during the Winter Performance in December.
Calling all fourth graders! Grab a friend and join us in Beasley Studio on September 9 as we begin rehearsals for The Beasley Ringers. Taught by Mrs. Norvell, you’ll have the opportunity to practice your music skills as well as have fun with your friends. Whether this is your first time ringing tone chimes or you’re an old pro, there’s a place for you. We will perform at the December assembly and the Winter Program. See you there! - Sculpture Safari (Tuesdays)
MICDS student in 1st-4th grade, a maximum of 12 students
In this COCA class, students will explore the animal kingdom through a variety of sculptural media. Campers use clay, wire, even handmade paper to create 3-D creatures both real and imaginary of all kinds. Instruction emphasizes construction and shape recognition and helps young artists link physical skills with their imagination. Interest in an art adventure is a must; no passport is necessary! - Field Hockey (Tuesdays)
MICDS students in 1st-4th grade, a maximum of 20 students
Brought to you by AIM Field Hockey, this 6-week class is led by former and current field hockey players who will teach the rules, fundamentals, game sense and much more. Some of these techniques are even coached at the highest level of the game. - LEGOS (Wednesdays)
MICDS students in JK and SK, a maximum of 12 students
Mrs. Kraushaar will lead students in a variety of LEGO building challenges that will combine the fun of building with creativity and a bit of robotics. - SuperSonic Superheroes (Thursdays)

Move over, Batman! In this COCA class, students will be inspired to create their own superhero identities while creating capes, flying through the air, sticking to the ceiling, and walking through walls. - Golf (Thursdays)
MICDS students in 1st-4th grade, a maximum of 15 students
Brought to you by Golf Squad, students will have the opportunity to build a golf foundation. The class is taught by a PGA or LPGA professional instructor and all equipment is provided. Each child will receive a handbook and visor at the end of the session. - Mexican-Yucatan Cuisine (Thursdays)
MICDS students in 2nd-4th grade, a maximum of 12 students
Taught by Señora Soledad, students will learn how to make Yucatan- Mayas recipes from Mexico while also learning about the Yucatan-Maya culture! The first-week students learn the location of Yucatan in Mexico and the origin of chocolate. Students will prepare “Chocolate Caliente al Estilo Maya” (Mayan Hot chocolate). The second-week students will learn about the importance of corn in the Maya’s life in Yucatan, and they will prepare “Tortillas con Queso Fresco” (Tortillas and Fresh Cheese). The third-week students will learn about the traditional fruits found in Yucatan and they will prepare “Batido Maya de Mamey y Mango” (Mayan Mamey and Mango Smoothie). The fourth-week students will learn about the importance of hammocks in the life of Mayas and they will prepare “Chilaquiles con Salsa Verde” (Chilaquiles with Green Sause). The fifth week students will learn about the Maya’s House and they will prepare “Guacamole con Tortillas”. The last week, students will learn about Maya’s language and they will prepare “Sikil Pac” (Sauce). - Icky, Sticky, Science (Fridays)
MICDS students in 1st-3rd grade, a maximum of 25 students
Brought to you by the St. Louis Science Center, these fun, hands-on activities will build interest in material science, increase understanding of concepts, and develop processing skills for your learners. Activities may include oobleck, slime, silly putty, pop rockets and more. Get ready to get sticky and even take home your own polymer! - Piano (Wednesdays)

Students of all different levels may take private piano lessons. The sessions are taught in 4-week sessions and are for the entire school year. Once enrolled, a separate email will be sent to select one of the six time slots (3-3:30, 3:30-4, 4-4:30,4:30-5, 5-5:30, 5:30-6). - Piano (Fridays)

MICDS students in 3rd and 4th grade, a maximum of 12 students
Do you enjoy math and love the challenge of a good problem? If you answered yes, then join other 3rd and 4th graders after school on Fridays to tackle new and interesting math problems, play math games, and look at how math is connected to the world around us. Time will be devoted each week to exploring competition-level math problems as well as engaging in fun, math-related activities. - Mo Mondays: A Mo Willems Book Club (Mondays)
MICDS students in JK and SK, a maximum of 12 students
Do you love Elephant and Piggie? What about the Pigeon? We will learn about these characters and more! Each week, we will read a different book by author and illustrator Mo Willems and then do some fun activities inspired by the story. This class is taught by Mrs. Hummel and Mrs. Otto. - Yoga and Mindful Movement (Tuesdays)
MICDS students in 1st-3rd grade, a maximum of 15 students
This after-school offering provides students with an opportunity to explore the basics of yoga, including mindful breathing and movement techniques. Each one-hour session will support students’ physical health and emotional well-being as yoga is known to reduce stress and anxiety, strengthen the immune system, boost self-confidence, and more! Missy Heinemann (LS/MS Drama Faculty) is a registered yoga instructor through Yoga Alliance. - Gaming Unplugged (Tuesdays)
MICDS students in 1st and 2nd grade, a maximum of 16 students
In this class taught by Mrs. Wallace and Ms. Skaggs, students will be playing a variety of board games that test their logic, critical thinking, problem-solving and reasoning skills. The values of sportsmanship, fair play and social interaction will be encouraged and developed. - Shape Exploration (Wednesdays)
MICDS students in 2nd and 3rd grade, a maximum of 12 students
Taught by Ms. Thweatt, students will explore geometry concepts using hands on activities to gain a conceptual understanding of topics such as 3-D shapes, perimeter, and angles. Students will spend time searching around Beasley to find ways that geometry is used in everyday life.

Holiday Camp
Holidays crafted for learning.
Holiday Camp offers activities for students in Grades JK-6 on weekdays when school is not in session. Activities have included Sports Fusion, Incredible Pizza, bowling, movies, cooking, LEGOs, pottery painting, and more. Holiday Camp days from 7:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

ASAP
Maximize academic growth.
Academic Support After-School Program (ASAP) provides structured time from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. to support academic growth and achievement for MICDS 7th and 8th graders. ASAP’s faculty assists students in homework help, organization and time management, and study skills. This free program offers flexible attendance to accommodate student schedules and an after-school snack is provided.
Please note that all students remaining at 5:00 p.m. will be transferred to Extended Day, which has a $10 drop-in fee.
Upper School Academic Center
Meet with teachers outside of class time.
The Academic Center provides free after-school support to Upper School students every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in Lower May Hall. Faculty members from the humanities, math/science and student services are available to meet with students during this time.
